Apprentice Profile: Sophie T

Sophie started her journey at Moog after a year’s engineering course at college, giving her the chance to ensure a career in engineering was the right choice.

Sophie had never planned on applying for A-levels, and when the first lockdown hit, she found that apprenticeships were few and far between. However, after first completing an Engineering Level 2 course in 2020, she enjoyed the topic so much she was keen to start an apprenticeship as soon as possible.

She chose Moog for the company culture: “During the interview process, everyone was so friendly and helpful. This has definitely carried on throughout my time here – the people and the culture are what makes Moog a great place to work.”

In a typical day in the Assembly and Test department, Sophie works within the Service Centre. She is often able to set her own tasks, and consults the production schedule to see what products need servicing most urgently. From there, she could be working on anything from large powergen actuators to servo valves.

“Since joining the Service Centre, I’ve become the first point of contact for RWG actuators,” Sophie said. “This means that if any come in to the department, I’m responsible for making sure they are serviced and completed in good time to fulfil the customer’s requirements.”

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys reading and collecting books, as well as exploring her culinary skills and cooking new meals for her family.
