Intern Profile: Ben C

An avid motorbike rider, Ben was delighted to be able to work with the Motorsport team at Moog, where he can bring his passion to work in an active role.

When looking for placements while studying at the University of Nottingham, Ben was looking for a company that would offer him plenty of variety. Moog offers its interns the chance to get involved in live projects across a number of departments, so they have the opportunity to learn about a range of engineering functions. “I’m not restricted to sitting at my desk and doing the same thing every day,” Ben said. “While some desk work is necessary, I also spend time on the shop floor or in the clean room, helping the Product Engineering team with lots of different tasks.”

As part of the Product Engineering team, Ben has to be ready for anything: “There is almost always something new to look at, like discovering oversized components, segregating stock or aiding investigations of failed valves – you really need to be responsive to immediate issues.

“I’m particularly proud of the strip investigations of valves I’ve done for high-profile clients, including hydraulic and dry tests of Direct Drive Valves,” Ben said.

During his time at Moog so far, Ben has been given the chance to gain new qualifications and help improve process. “I’ve also created and got approved the English Engineering Instruction for the laser engraver,” Ben continued. “This is a highly controlled process and used in every product, so I’m really pleased to have been able to do this.”

Thanks to Moog’s inclusive environment, Ben has felt part of the team from day one. “Moog’s culture allows people to work their hardest and do their best, and its progressive values mean that it’s a really friendly place to work,” Ben concluded.
